We've done pre-wedding shoots in 40+ locations within 2 hours of Delhi. Some look incredible in photos and are a nightmare to access. Some look mediocre in brochures but deliver extraordinary light. Here's the honest, photographer's-eye view of every major option.

How we categorise locations

• Light quality — The single biggest factor. North-facing open locations deliver soft, even light. South-facing at noon is harsh.
• Permit complexity — Some sites require advance bookings weeks out. Others are walk-in.
• Best outfit match — A heritage fort demands different fabrics than an urban rooftop.
• Crowd factor — Monday mornings at Lodhi are a different shoot than Sunday afternoons.

Delhi — within the city

1. Lodhi Garden

Vibe: Editorial, lush, timeless
Permit: None (free entry, 5 AM–8 PM)
Best time: 6:00–7:30 AM, any day Monday–Friday
Outfit match: Everything — modern, ethnic, fusion

The most forgiving location in Delhi. Ancient architecture, dappled light through old trees, textured stone walls. The Sheesh Gumbad and Bada Gumbad work equally well. At 6 AM on a weekday, you'll have entire sections to yourself. At 11 AM on a Sunday, it's a cricket-and-yoga park.

2. Sunder Nursery

Vibe: Heritage garden, clean, manicured
Permit: ₹1,000 professional photography fee (weekdays preferred)
Best time: 7:00–9:00 AM
Outfit match: Pastels, soft ethnic, traditional silk

Restored Mughal-era garden with heritage pavilions, still pools, and manicured paths. One of the most consistently beautiful light environments in central Delhi. Fewer people than Lodhi because of the entry fee.

3. Humayun's Tomb

Vibe: Grand, monumental, Mughal heritage
Permit: ASI photography permit (₹5,000–₹10,000, 3 weeks advance)
Best time: Sunrise (5:30 AM in summer, 6:30 AM in winter)
Outfit match: Rich colours — deep red, royal blue, bottle green

The permit is worth it if the couple can do a sunrise shoot. At first light, the red sandstone turns amber and the central pool mirrors everything. By 9 AM it's a tourist site.

4. Hauz Khas Village and Complex

Vibe: Urban, art, layered, edgy
Permit: None for the complex and lake area
Best time: 4:00–6:00 PM (the lane light is beautiful)
Outfit match: Contemporary, casual, fusion

The fort and lake at golden hour is stunning and often empty on weekdays. The village lanes offer urban textures for a completely different look. Two distinct aesthetics in one 30-minute walk.

5. Mehrauli Archaeological Park

Vibe: Wild heritage, raw, untouched
Permit: None for most of the open area
Best time: 6:00–8:00 AM
Outfit match: Earthy, bohemian, white and ivory

70+ monuments spread across a large park — most untouched by tourists. Extremely atmospheric, slightly overgrown, extraordinary texture. The Jamali Kamali mosque and tomb is the hero frame. Come with a guide app; the layout is confusing.

6. Purana Qila (Old Fort)

Vibe: Medieval grandeur, dramatic scale
Permit: ASI permit required for professional photography
Best time: Sunrise or an hour before sunset
Outfit match: Rich ethnic — lehenga, sherwani

The scale is enormous, which means wide-angle compositions that small venues can't deliver. The octagonal tower is the iconic frame.

7. Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Vasant Vihar

Vibe: Boho forest, wild, dramatic
Permit: None
Best time: 6:00–7:30 AM
Outfit match: Flowy fabrics, earthy colours, no heavy jewellery

An underrated location because it's difficult to navigate. Extensive forest within Delhi, completely free, extremely photogenic at golden hour. The rocky Aravalli outcrops give a dramatic backdrop nothing else in the city provides.

8. India Gate and Rajpath / Kartavya Path

Vibe: Classic Delhi, patriotic grandeur
Permit: None for non-commercial
Best time: Very early morning (before 7 AM)
Outfit match: Bold ethnic colours

Iconic but heavily visited. An early morning shoot can yield clean frames before the crowds. The avenue lighting at blue hour (dusk) is exceptional.

Noida and Greater Noida

9. Botanical Garden, Noida

Vibe: Urban park, modern, clean
Permit: ₹500 for professional shoot
Best time: 6:00–8:30 AM
Outfit match: Any — very versatile

Large, maintained, with seasonal flowers. Not as atmospheric as Delhi's heritage parks but very accessible for Noida couples and much less crowded.

10. World of Wonder (off-season)

Vibe: Quirky, colourful, unexpected
Best time: Weekday mornings when least crowded
Outfit match: Bright contemporary, playful

Not the obvious choice, but the colourful structures can yield very unusual frames. Works for couples with a playful aesthetic.

11. Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida (golf course)

Permit: Hotel guest or location fee
Vibe: Open, green, resort luxury
Best time: Any
Outfit match: Modern, resort casual

The golf course backdrop is one of the few genuinely open green spaces near NCR. The white marble of the hotel exterior photographs beautifully in morning light.

Gurgaon and Manesar

12. Heritage Village Resort, Manesar

Vibe: Earthy, destination-like, sandstone
Permit: Location fee (negotiate as a guest)
Best time: Morning golden hour
Outfit match: Everything — the neutral palette absorbs all colours

One hour from Gurgaon, but the aesthetic is Rajasthan. Sandstone corridors, open courtyards, large trees. One of the best location-fee-per-frame-quality ratios within 60 km of Delhi.

13. Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Haryana

Vibe: Wetland, golden light, nature
Permit: Entry fee (no special photography permit needed)
Best time: November–February, 7:00–9:00 AM
Outfit match: Soft pastels, white, earth tones

Seasonal (best in winter when the migratory birds are there), but the golden-hour light over the wetlands is extraordinary. Very peaceful on weekday mornings.

14. Cyber Hub Rooftops, Gurgaon

Vibe: Urban, modern corporate-cool
Best time: Dusk
Outfit match: Contemporary — suits, cocktail wear, city-chic

For the couple who wants a modern Delhi/Gurgaon urban frame. City lights at blue hour.

Within 2 hours of Delhi (the day-trip circle)

15. Neemrana Fort Palace, Alwar

Drive: 90 min from Delhi
Vibe: Royal Rajasthan without the Rajasthan flight
Location fee: ₹15,000–₹30,000 (or included as resort guest)
Best outfit: Rich ethnic — lehenga, sherwani, saree

The 15th-century fort has 14 separate levels, multiple courtyards, and views over the Aravalli valley. Every corner is a new set. One of the best value "destination look without destination travel" options.

16. Tijara Fort Palace, Alwar

Drive: 90 min from Delhi
Vibe: Heritage, intimate, less commercial than Neemrana
Location fee: Negotiated as guest
Best outfit: Traditional, rich, regal

Similar vintage to Neemrana but less visited, which means fewer tourist interruptions. The interiors are darker — bring a photographer who shoots naturally.

17. Rishikesh / Beatles Ashram

Drive: 5–6 hours (better to fly or overnight)
Vibe: Spiritual + urban art, river, mountains
Permit: Entry fee for the Ashram (₹600)
Best outfit: Boho, flowing fabrics, white

The Maharishi's abandoned ashram covered in Beatles-era murals is unlike anything else in north India. The Ganga ghats at sunrise are extraordinary. Best for couples comfortable with outdoor, unscripted shoots.

18. Agra — Mehtab Bagh (not the Taj)

Drive: 3.5–4 hours
Permit: ASI entry + photography (₹5,000–₹10,000)
Vibe: Taj Mahal reflection without the crowds
Best time: Sunrise (be there by 5:30 AM)

The garden directly across the Yamuna from the Taj. At sunrise, you get the Taj reflection in the pool, golden light, and often completely empty. A technically superior frame to anything you can get from the Taj itself.

19. Jim Corbett / Rajaji buffer zone (resort locations)

Vibe: Forest, wildlife-adjacent, dramatic
Best for: Couples who want nature, not monuments

The resort lawns and forest periphery offer extraordinary greenery and morning mist in the right season.

Indirapuram and Ghaziabad — local options

20. Indirapuram Habitat Centre area (industrial backdrop)

Vibe: Urban, raw, unexpected
Permit: None
Best time: Late evening for light trails

Not what you'd expect, but the infrastructure and urban textures can yield very contemporary, editorial frames — particularly for couples with a modern aesthetic.

21. Private farmhouses, Vasundhara / Greater Noida Expressway

Vibe: Open, customisable, exclusive
Permit: Rented exclusively (₹8,000–₹20,000 per day)
Best outfit: Everything — blank canvas

Farmhouses along the expressway corridor offer privacy, large lawns, and complete control of the environment. No permit complexities, no crowds, and you can set up as many props and setups as you want. Our go-to for couples who want complete flexibility.
