But the premium they add to packages (₹20,000–₹50,000) is real. Here's the honest evaluation of whether they're worth it for your wedding.

What "same-day edit" actually includes

The term covers a few different deliverables. Make sure you know which one you're paying for:

Tier 1 — Same-day sneak peek photos (₹8,000–₹15,000)

5–10 edited hero frames delivered within 24 hours, ready for first social posts.

Tier 2 — Same-day teaser reel (₹15,000–₹30,000)

60–90 second cinematic edit using selected photos + short video clips, music scoring, basic colour grade. Delivered by the reception or within 24 hours.

Tier 3 — Live reception screening (₹30,000–₹50,000+)

The teaser reel is edited on-site during the wedding and screened live during the reception. Requires a dedicated editor with portable workstation, often a projector setup.

Tier 4 — Full social media kit (₹35,000–₹60,000)

Sneak peeks + teaser reel + Instagram stories + square crops + vertical reels for multiple platforms, all delivered within 48 hours.

The "same-day edit" line on a photographer's quote could mean any of these. Always ask which tier you're getting.

What actually happens behind a same-day edit

This isn't magic — it's a logistics workflow. A studio offering same-day edits typically deploys:

1. A dedicated edit team (1–2 editors on-site) who don't shoot. They sit in a backroom with laptops, ingesting footage as the shooters hand off cards every 2 hours.

2. Pre-built edit templates in Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve — colour grading presets, transition stacks, music tracks pre-licensed and ready.

3. Continuous communication between shooters and editors — "key moment just happened, send card now."

4. A staging area with power, internet, and screening capability — often a hotel room booked for the day or a dedicated production van.

Engagement parties or smaller pre-events For smaller pre-wedding functions where the budget is lower, same-day delivery makes the function feel more "event-worthy."

3. Will the editor be on-site or working remotely? (On-site means faster delivery and more flexibility)
4. Is the reel customisable? (Music choice, colour preferences, specific moments you want featured)
5. What happens if the equipment fails or the editor falls sick? (Backup plan)

Common same-day edit mistakes

1. Letting the editor pick generic music. Same-day editors under time pressure default to library tracks they've used before. Spend 10 minutes pre-wedding sharing 3–4 specific tracks you'd like — your reel will feel personal instead of templated.

2. Not briefing the photographer on "must-include" moments. Same-day editors only have what shooters hand them. If a specific moment (your grandfather's blessing, a private moment with your sibling) matters, brief the shooters explicitly to capture and prioritise it.

3. Underestimating timeline pressure on the editor. Same-day editors working a 14-hour wedding day produce variable quality at the end.
